Ben Rhydding Primary School - Autumn Term 2026/26

This term we are excited to announce that our Super Hero School is Ben Rhydding Primary, who have been taking bold steps to focus on sustainability and put this learning into action-an inspiring example of pupils and staff driving change in their school and community!

Ben Rhydding have been busy bringing their Sustainable Development Goals to life with two themed whole-school days: World Ocean Day and Climate Action Day.

A core part of the Energy Heroes programme is that it’s pupil-led – and Ben Rhydding embraced this wholeheartedly. Each day began with a pupil-led assembly, followed by hands-on activities that took learning well beyond the classroom.

Pupils explored their local nature reserve, carried out pond dipping in the school’s own pond, sketched what they discovered, and spent the entire day immersed in the natural world – no screens, no interactive whiteboards, just real-world learning. They even applied for funding from Wharfedale Naturalists to support pond dipping resources, gardening equipment and wildlife-friendly plants.

Meanwhile, the school’s gardening club continues to thrive, with more pupils joining and a growing harvest of fruits and vegetables now being used in the school kitchen. A brilliant example of sustainable learning in action!

Following their Energy Audit with Energy Heroes, pupils delivered a compelling presentation to the school governors – successfully persuading them to switch to renewable energy. The school then contacted our partner organisation, Solar for Schools, and we’re delighted that Ben Rhydding is eligible for solar panels.
